Evaluating our project based learning.

The PBL 2016 was a great success to our group. The topic chose by my group was homelessness and poverty. We planned to improve the hygiene of the homeless people. The plan was to fundraise some hygiene products and non-perishable food items from a mufti day which was previously organized by the school. We aimed to send the  hygiene products and non-perishable foods collected from the mufti day to the 'City Mission' and 'Salvation Army'. These companies will further give the fundraising to the homeless and poor people.

Our group achieved the goal of collecting the hygiene products and non-perishable foods. The fundraising in the 'mufti day' had a very good outcome. The fundraising was completed with the result well beyond our expectation.

The Project done by our group had a very good outcome in improving the lives of homeless and poor people. We were successful in our aim to enrich the hygiene of homeless and poor people. 'The City Mission' and 'The Salvation' were very happy to receive such a big amount of donation collected by such a small group.

Our group can collaborate more properly next time. Everyone in the group should be aware  of what the group is doing and is on the same task. The absence of a group member should be managed because a member of our group was away most of the time we did PBL.

Project-based learning is a very fun and challenging way of learning in this modern world. It acts as a perfect base for improvement of our communication, humanity, and social life. Project-based learning creates the best student involvement than the traditional way of learning.

Our plan to enrich the health of homeless people by improving their hygiene was one of the most important things we did well on. The fundraising on the 'mufti day' and the amount of hygiene product and food items donated by the students is also one of the things we did well on. We also designed, planned and performed well in the presentation.

I am pleased that I chose homelessness and poverty. Despite New Zealand being one of the developed nations worldwide, the issue of homelessness and poverty always hinders the country's economy. I am pleased that our group had done some improvement to issue.

I learned that "A small try from a small group of people could be the starting point to change the face of the world." Our result in our PBL also reflects that teamwork is the best way to solve a problem.

Project based learning (Homelessness and Poverty)

Hello! everyone. This term our school has been doing project based learning. The topic investigated my group is homelessness and poverty in New Zealand. We have carefully investigated the issue and planned an action to improve it. Here are some of the log entries that we have written to achieve our plan.
 1.

Date: 20/11/016

Mr. Aitken presented the group and the topic that we will be investigating and putting it on an action. Our topic was Homelessness and Poverty. Our group collectively investigated  the issue and how important it is to fix the issue. We finished our investigation and started planning the action we will perform to help the homeless. Shakira, me, Jayden and Cory were my group members. Our group members not being able to plan the action and group members not able to collaborate properly may be the barriers that we will have to face. The investigation and planning went good and we planned to improve the health of homeless by donating them some hygiene products. We planned to get the products by organizing a mufti day.

Our group members went to Mr. Rogers telling him about our plan of organizing a mufti day to collect some hygiene products. Mr. Rogers agreed to help us by telling students to bring some hygiene products on the mufti day. I, Shakira, Jayden, and Cory were the enablers. Mr. Rogers not being in the office and teachers not letting us out of the class may block the path of success of our action plan. We were happy that Mr. Rogers agreed to help us in the action plan.

Jayden had a phone call to the city mission and the salvation army to say if they could accept some hygiene products and some foods collected from the mufti and further give it to the homeless people. As a result, the salvation army and the city mission agreed to accept our donation to the homeless people. Mr. Aitken allowed us to use the English Department phone to ring the salvation army and the city mission. Too many people in the queue to use the phone may be a barrier. The phone call was quite a brave work and a good start to our success.

Jayden and Cory went to the staff meeting to talk to the teachers if they could donate some hygiene products. All of the teachers loved our plan and agreed to help us.Shakira and I could not attend the meeting as we did not read the mail from Jayden saying us to attend the meeting. Although I and Shakira did not attend the meeting, our plan got accepted and all the students were notified about bringing some hygiene products and some canned foods for the mufti day.

We collected hygiene products and some canned foods to help the homeless people in a mufti day. The products and foods are collected in office and will be further sent to the salvation army and the City Mission to enrich the lives of less fortunate people. Shakira, me, Cory, and Jayden worked very hard to collect the products. Students not bringing the hygiene products and teachers not letting us into their class may become an issue for us. The collection of the products and canned foods went really good and we are expecting it to go to the Salvation Army and City Mission as soon as possible. We collected about 50-60 kilograms of hygiene products and canned foods. We will be further planning for our presentation.
